ExxonMobil Progress Update
ExxonMobil continually evaluates new technologies in an effort to enhance our remediation efforts and to ensure we are using advanced system components to accelerate recovery and remediation at Greenpoint. In 2010, ExxonMobil evaluated several new technologies for potential use at the Greenpoint site, including the second phase of a pilot study of the Primawave technology.
Video fact sheet: Greenpoint remediation project
From the ironworks and shipyards of the 1840s, Greenpoint and ExxonMobil have a long, shared history. By 1900, more than 50 refineries were in operation in the area, several of which likely contributed to the petroleum contamination underneath Greenpoint. The ongoing remediation of this contamination is a complicated process, and ExxonMobil uses the best proven technology and careful planning to ensure a safe and effective recovery.
Our commitment
ExxonMobil is committed to conducting a thorough recovery effort as quickly and safely as possible. As a longstanding community member, we will continue to seek new ways to engage with our neighbors and invest in the future of Greenpoint.
Our work in Greenpoint
The Northeast section of Greenpoint is the site of petroleum contamination from multiple contributors that accumulated over more than 100 years. To date, more than 11 million gallons of product have been recovered, and ExxonMobil will work until the remediation is complete.
