US Military Academy at West Point

Since 2008, ExxonMobil, in collaboration with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), has invited cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point to the Greenpoint site for a half-day of tours and presentations. Most recently, 18 cadets toured the facility as part of a senior seminar on Solid and Hazardous Waste Treatment and Remediation processes.

The cadets, all environmental engineering majors, spent a sunny spring day touring the facility with field technicians and listening to presentations on the various remediation processes at the Greenpoint site. The large group was split in half to tour the site and the cadets were able to ask questions of the experienced field technicians who accompanied them.

Project Manager Steve Trifiletti commented that the cadets asked very insightful questions that demonstrated a broad knowledge of remediation. “As always,” he said, “they were very attentive and curious. It’s a pleasure to have the cadets tour our facilities and we’re glad to share our knowledge.”

The cadets were eager to soak up as much information as possible; an exam on environmental remediation awaited them upon their return to West Point.
